5 of the Best TV Aunts

Laurie Metcalf is celebrating her birthday today (June 16), and she got a pretty awesome present: she snagged a Tony award for Best Actress in a Play at this year's ceremony.

Metcalf is well-known for her role as Jackie Harris on the show Roseanne. In honor of her birthday, here are some other notable TV aunts we wish were part of our family:

Aunt Becky on Full House

She had a cool TV job hosting "Wake Up, San Francisco" alongside Danny Tanner, plus she got to be married to Uncle Jesse and had adorable twin sons. Basically, Aunt Becky was living everyone's dream life.

Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Aunt Viv was an especially interesting character on the show, mostly because after three seasons she was portrayed by a different actress due to tensions among the cast. Though Aunt Viv's personality shifted slightly with the change in actress (she started off fiery, then became more of a mama bear), the character was still a great one.

Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda from Sabrina the Teenage Witch

The show followed newly-minted witch Sabrina Spellman as she lives her life alongside her two 500-year-old, feisty aunts and her talking cat. It made you wish you had magical powers and two super cool aunts to help you navigate both normal and supernatural problems.

Aunt Clara on Bewitched

Following along with the magic trend, Aunt Clara's role on Bewitched was that of an aging, forgetful witch who would try to cast spells, and often end up wreaking hilarity and havoc. Perfect for breaking up family tension.

Next Thanksgiving when your own extended family members are acting out or trying to start a heated political debate, you can just distract yourself by thinking about which of these lovely aunts you'd most like to adopt into your own clan.
