What SWFL Is Talking About March 7th

Fire officials are calling it the “Faka Union” fire…a blaze in the Picayune Strand State Forest that has now reached over 6,000 acres. The fire started as a controlled burn late last week, but changing weather conditions turned it into an out of control fire. Hopefully today’s rain will help fire fighters in their attempts to bring the fire under control.


The Cape Coral City Redevelopment Agency has agreed to help fund the costs of extra policing if the city decided to again extend bar hours. There’s a proposal on the table now that would keep bars in the Cape open until 3am on Saturdays and Sundays that has wide support among business owners in the SE Cape. The ordinance to extend bar hours will be discussed further at the next council meeting on March 19th.


22 year old Nicole Lawler of Cape Coral was arrested in a case of road rage. She allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman after an altercation on North Cleveland Avenue in North Fort Myers. She’s being held on no bond.


Former Lee County judge Jay Rosman, who was arrested in a prostitution sting several weeks back has worked out an agreement with prosecutors that will see his charges dropped. Rosman will be required to pay a fine and complete a program set up for non-violent offenders.
