With only one council member opposed, David Stokes, The Cape Coral City Council has once again agreed to extend bar hours in the Southeast Entertainment District, this time to 3am on Saturdays and Sundays. Bar owners say the extended hours are needed to offset losses due to construction in the area. The extra police costs will be paid in part by the Community Redevelopment Agency.
The Marco Island City Council has unanimously agreed to fire City Manager Lee Niblock. Niblock had been arrested last month on assault charges. He’s only been on the job since December.
The brother of Nikolas Cruz, has been arrested for allegedly trespassing on school grounds at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. 18 year old Zachary Cruz was picked up by police yesterday while riding his skateboard on school grounds. He had received prior warnings to stay away from the Douglas High campus.
Fort Myers city council met Monday night to discuss how to pay and over 20 thousand dollar fine to the Department of Environmental Protection that was levied on the city when it dumped 35 thousand gallons of untreated water into the Caloosahatchee River.
The water was dumped into the river during Hurricane Irma when city wastewater facilities lost power. The Mayor favors a plan to buy pumps rather than pay the fine, so something like this doesn’t happen again. The DEP will ultimately make the decision.
Police have arrested 34 year old Erik Brown and charged him with operating a small grow house on a boat docked at a home on Sanibel.
Sanibel Police uncovered more than 2 dozen marijuana plans aboard the boat along with Xanax pills and drug paraphernalia. Brown was taken to the Lee County Jail
