Lee County school officials and The Lee County Sheriff’s Offiice held a press conference yesterday andannounced that effective immediately, they will begin transferring deputies to every school campus in the county.
The Sheriff’s Office is accomplishing this by transferring deputies, detectives, and supervisors from their current positions to the schools. As additional deputies are hired, temporary positions will be filled by permanent School Resource Officers
Fire crews had their hands full in both Collier and Hendry Counties as high winds and dry weather led to a couple of big brush fires. One of the blazes was located off Greenway Road in Naples, no homes or structures are threatened at this time…A second fire is burning near the former Hendry County Prison off State Road 29. At last check that fire was only about 10 percent contained.
A member of a Mexican drug cartel responsible for bringing over 11 pounds of methamphetamine to Southwest Florida pleaded guilty yesterday and could face up to life in prison. 37 year old Juan Carlos Gonzalez was part of an organization based in Tijuana. He was arrested while trying to enter the US from Mexico.
Cape Coral Police have arrested 66 year old Felipe Cruz and accused him with lewd and lascivious behavior after it was discovered that he showed obscene material to a child at an unlicensed daycare on SE 21st Place. Police are asking anyone who may have sent their kids to this daycare to contact them. Cruz has been released on $100,000 bond. He’s visiting Cape Coral from Cuba.
Is a vaping ban in Florida’s future? Former State Sentaor Lisa Carlton thinks so, and she’s introduced a proposal to ban vaping and electronic cigarettes. in public places like restaurants. A recent Surgeon general’s report shows that secondhand vapor potentially exposes people to harmful chemicals. A final vote on the proposal in May could see the vaping ban on the November ballot.
