Usually quiet Bokeelia was the site of an officer involved shooting yesterday. Police were called to a home on Aura Lane yesterday afternoon where they encountered Rickey Beaty in an agitated state. He attempted to stab a deputy with a knife. That’s when the deputy fired and shot the suspect who was taken to the hospital. His condition is not known at this time. The deputy is recovering from a minor stab wound.
Parts of East Naples near the Picayune Strand Forest are under a voluntary evacuation order. The blaze officials are calling the “Flag Pond Fire” has claimed over 15 hundred acres. The fire is about 20% contained as crews continued to work through the night.
We have an ID on the man who was killed during morning rush hour yesterday when his car slammed head on into the back of a dump truck. 31 year old Jonathan Powell was pronounced dead at Gulf Coast Medical Center. Police say there was no evidence that Powell hit his brakes before hitting the truck.
