What SWFL Is Talking About March 26th
Fire crews were busy all weekend, dealing with existing fires, and battling new fires that popped up due to our unusually dry weather. Road closures are still in effect.
Firefighters say the Picayune Strand Fire, nicknamed the “Flag Pond Fire” is now 100 % contained, crews managed to bring a mulch fire in North Fort Myers under control by yesterday, and about 25 acres burned near RSW on Green Meadow Road. The Greenway fire in Collier County continues to burn…and is about 20% contained.
Alligator Alley is closed from Mile Marker 101 in Collier County to State Road 29.
Look for a larger police presence in Lee County when your kids return to school today. According to the Lee School District Superintendent, they have been working with the sheriff’s office over the past week to “fortify schools and enhance safety protocols.”
By next school year the district hopes to Place a minimum of one School Resource Officer in each school, Expand mental health services, and develop district-wide Security Risk Assessment for all schools.
