Brush fires continue to burn across SW Florida causing health problems, traffic issues, property loss, but so far no deaths. Meanwhile the Governor announced yesterday that Florida is extending the sales tax holiday for hurricane season to a full week . The sales tax holiday gives consumers a break on hurricane related supplies like tarps, batteries and flashlights. The sales tax holiday starts June 1st.
A lawsuit was filed yesterday that could cost the city millions of dollars. Four Ft. Myers residents are suing the city, the Mayor and the City Manager . They want the city to remove arsenic that’s contained in sludge at a dumpsite in the Dunbar community on South Street. Attorneys for the homeowners claim the residents health and property values have been compromised due to the arsenic in their neighborhood, and they want the site cleaned up under supervision.
