The City of Cape Coral is going to spend 1 million dollars to protect students in the city’s schools. 22 Cape police officers will be reassigned according to the plan…both public and charter schools will be adding the school resource officers.
The local chapter of the NAACP will be holding a protest today to demand that the city of Fort Myers remove a statue of Robert E. Lee on Monroe Street. Those that oppose removal of the statue are also planning on attending the event, and the Fort Myers Police Department has allocated manpower to handle the protest.
Veteran Southwest Floridians will recognize the name The Shamrock Irish Pub, a long time Fort Myers Beach watering hole, now in hot water with State Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. The bureau claims the pub was allegedly operating illegal slot machines and making cash payouts. The owner of the bar was arrested.
