Weather forecasters are keeping an eye on the tropics. They believe that a large rain area in the Caribbean may end up in the Gulf later this week…and we could see some tropical development by this weekend.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced a major collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security, FBI The State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that resulted in the arrest of 18 people who solicited children online for sexual purposes. Police say they plan on making more arrests in this case.
The NAACP made it’s case for the removal of a ststue of Robert E. LeeĀ the Downtown Fort Myers area last night at a City Council meeting, and at the end of the meeting the council took no action, instead council instructed the City Attorney to meet with Lee County officials to come up with a compromise plan. The NAACP says they’re planning a march in the coming weeks to bring attention to their cause.
36 year old Michael Rivera has been arrested on animal cruelty charges. Police say Rivera was involved in animal fighting. 57 fighting roosters, eight hens and 30 baby chickens were seized fromĀ the property that was being used for the animal fighting.
The Fort Myers Beach Town Council has voted unanimously to approve a zoning request for TPI Hospitality, which plans to build a resort hotel/water park complex at the foot of the Matanzas Pass Bridge Times Square. There are still numerous permit applications that have to be approved, but TPI has plans to begin construction by January of next year.
