A Port Charlotte High graduate and former Nobel Peace Prize nominee has been arrested by the FBI and charged with child sexual abuse. 22 year old Joel Davis is facing several charges in connection with the case. He was nominated for the Nobel prize for founding an organization to fight child sexual abuse.
A suspect is still at large in connection with a purse snatching in downtown Fort Myers yesterday morning. A woman was eating breakfast at United Ale House when a man pushed her head down into her plate and stole her purse. He was able to getaway, but police have a good description of the suspect.
The large algae bloom in the Caloosahatchee River continues to move westward with residents posting hundreds of photos on social media. In some areas the bloom is turning blue, and witnesses say the algae also smells bad, and in some cases the algae contains harmful bacteria. Several beaches have been closed as a result of the green water.
