Keith Urban Honors His Music Teacher
As a show of support for music education, Keith Urban did a heartfelt video dedicated to his high school music teacher. In the video posted to Instagram, Urban says that Mrs. Grimmer, his high school music teacher at Caboolture High School in Queensland, put him in the positiion that he’s in today. “I failed music as a subject,” Urban said in the video. “It was because I couldn’t read, I had no theory but she knew that I was naturally talented so she re-wrote this whole test we were supposed to take. Me and several of the other kids.” Keith andn the other kids failed because the test given wasn’t part of the curriculum, but it has always stuck with him. Keith didn’t finish high school, and ended up quitting at 15 to pursue his love of music. He’s reminiscing about this moment as part of country music’s I Stand With Me program for music education. What teacher helped you along the way as you were going through school? Do teachers get enough credit these days?
