The beach is open but, The Florida Dept of Health has posted a health advisory for Tigertail Beach on Marco Island due to high bacteria levels.

 

Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday his plan to attract teachers to the state. That plan includes a $9,000 bonus for teachers if they excel at their job, plus bonus incentives for principals. The plan must still be approved by Florida lawmakers before it any changes are made.

 

A controversial Fort Myers restaurant, The Fly Lounge, that has been operating as a nightclub, and attracting the attention of local authorities, may be forced to close after a Lee County Circuit Court Judge ruled with a property owner in the eviction case against the club. The attorney for the operators of The Fly Lounge say they plan to fight the eviction.

  • Quite a haul..Charlotte County Deputies are on the lookout for 5 people responsible for stealing $7,000 worth of cigarettes from a Punta Gorda WalMart. They were driving a Silver SUV. If you have any information, call the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

 

A City Commissioner in Madeira Beach has resigned  after the former City Manager accused her of licking his face and grabbing him in a suggestive manner. Nancy Oakley maintains her innocence and she has 30 days to appeal her firing.
Baseball great and the games first Black manager, Frank Robinson has passed away. He was 83.

    • Irish Cream Brownie, Rum Tres Leches, and Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle are a few of the new offerings.
    • The Häagen-Dazs Spirits line is set to hit shelves soon and they have .05% alcohol content so you can indulge without having to reveal your actual age.
    • Häagen-Dazs ice cream shops will start selling the flavors on March 1st.

     

  • 57 Years After Its Release, To Kill a Mockingbird Is Returning to Theaters

    • It’s been 57 years since To Kill a Mockingbirdwas on the big screen, now thanks to Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies the controversial movie is coming to a theater near you this Spring.
    • Fourteen other classic movies will also return this year thanks to the Fathom & Turner partnership including Steel Magnolias and Gone With The Wind.
    • To Kill a Mockingbird is the story of a white lawyer played by Gregory Peck, who defends a black man in the segregated South. The movie will be shown in its original black and white format on Sunday, March 24th and Wednesday, March 27th.
    • You can go to the Fathom Events website to find To Kill a Mockingbird screening near you. With our current climate, it might help to be reminded that “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
