Charlotte County Police have arrested 29 year old Rondale Robbins for allegedly stabbing another man during a fight Sunday night. Robbins has been charged with manslaughter.
Police in South Elgin Illinois have arrested 54 year old Pamela Lynn Vandeursen-Thime and charged her with fraud and exploitation of the elderly in connection with a senior citizen on Marco Island. Vanderursen-Thime allegedly used her interior design business to cheat a homeowner out of almost $80,000. The suspect will be extradited back to Florida to face the charges.
Police have arrested 49 year old Mario Rene Cahuec Cha, on illegal smuggling and human trafficking charges. Police say he smuggled a young man from Guatemala, forced him to work and kept his earnings. The suspect was taken to the Lee County Jail.
The Florida House has approved a measure banning texting while driving. The first offense is punishable by a $30 fine. The bill is waiting on the Governor’s signature before it becomes law.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has named the members of the state’s newly-formed Blue-Green Algae Task Force. The Governor said “The focus of this task force is to support key funding and restoration initiatives and make recommendations to expedite nutrient reductions in Lake Okeechobee and downstream estuaries,” The team is headed by Mike Parsons, professor of marine science at Florida Gulf Coast University.
