Taylor Swift Reportedly Has ‘Zero Regrets’ About Calling Scooter Braun Out
Taylor Swift isn’t backing down in her criticism of Scooter Braun, the Hollywood talent management executive who now owns her masters after purchasing her former record label.
“No matter what Scooter or any of his people say, Taylor believes he did this to hurt her,” an insider tells E News. “She wants the truth about him to come out. She was furious and she still is. She is so upset and has zero regrets about making this public.”
The singer has been publicly quiet since releasing a message on Tumblr Sunday about how Braun’s purchasing of Big Machine Records, her former label that owns her entire music catalog through her last album, Reputation, was a “worst case scenario.”
“Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world,” she wrote. “All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.”
But Big Machine Records and Braun’s camp have both maintained that she was given ample notice and even chances to buy back her catalog, but refused.
According to Page Six, Swift “ghosted” Braun when he attempted to contact her about the negotiations.
And Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta suggested Swift had little interest in owning her masters when she left the label last fall.
“Since communication ran dry on our negotiations, I’ve done what I told you I would do and gone out exploring other options,” Swift allegedly wrote to Borchetta in a post he shared. “Owning my masters was very important to me, but I’ve since realized that there are things that mean even more to me in the bigger picture. I had a choice whether to bet on my past or to bet on the future and I think knowing me, you can guess which one I chose.”
Still, her lawyer denies this, announcing to Billboard Tuesday: “Scott Borchetta never gave Taylor Swift an opportunity to purchase her masters, or the label, outright with a check in the way he is now apparently doing for others.”
Furthermore, an insider tells E! that no matter what Braun or Borchetta say, Swift is standing firm in her characterization of both of them and the way the deal went down.
“Taylor doesn’t care if she has enemies and if all of Scooter’s friends support him. She knows what his intentions are and why he did this,” the insider said. “She has her friends who will stand by and support her, too. She feels very strongly about this, and standing up to Scooter.”
One of those friends is Ed Sheeran, who fans called out for not defending her publicly. In response, on his social media, he said he has been “speaking directly to her, like I always do.”
Among celebs who have supported Taylor are Halsey, Camila Cabello and Cara Delevigne, while Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato have publicly defended Braun.
Still, Swift doesn’t seem to mind who has her back in the argument.
“He doesn’t scare her at all,” the insider added.
