The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible drowning off Captiva Island near Blind Pass. Police don’t believe there was any foul play involved.
Immigration and Customs officials seen in the area over the weekend, didn’t seem to materialize into any raids in Immokalee over the weekend, yet undocumented people in our area continue to live in fear. Immokalee residents say most Hispanic residents stayed in their homes this weekend, or left town altogether.
Police are looking for a suspected car burglar who tried to break into cars in the Waterway Estates neighborhood one handed…one handed because he was carrying a beer. The car owner’s son was able to chase the suspect away. A report was filed with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Sharks seem to be more active this Summer, and we’ve had an attack here in Florida as a 16 year old girl was bitten on her foot and ankle while boogie boarding in the waters off Amelia Island. She was treated at a local hospital.

Star Wars Fans Direct Traffic With Lightsabers During New York Blackout
- Say what you want about New Yorkers, but in times of need they know how to come together for the greater good.
- Saturday night, on the 42nd anniversary of the 1977 Blackout in NYC, they were once again in darkness.
- Some people were trapped in subways, on elevators or simply home in darkness on the Westside of Manhattan.
- A few good samaritans took to the streets to direct traffic as the traffic lights were also out.
- Some used their cell phones and some used actual light sabers to direct traffic.
- The outage lasted for three hours and was caused by a mechanical problem. By 10pm all was restored.
