An anonymous call shortly before 11am yesterday saying there was an active shooters on the campus of Chico’s headquarters on Metro Parkway turned out to be a hoax. Nonetheless, the sprawling Chico’s propert was placed on lockdown, and many employees locked themselves in closets until the threat was deemed to be false. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.

Collier County Police have arrested 24 year old Johnni August. He’s facing multiple drug charges after cops found him with heroin laced with fentanyl, enough to kill 14 thousand people.

Five Guys Arrested at a Stuart Florida Five Guys for Fighting

  • Five guys were arrested Wednesday after they got into a fight while eating at — wait for it — Five Guys.
  • Naturally, the incident happened in Florida, at a Five Guys burger restaurant in Stuart. Two adults and three underage guys got into an argument, which escalated into an all-out free for all, according to an arrest report. It’s unclear what started the disagreement. All five were charged with affray, a Florida misdemeanor regarding getting violent in a public place. It’s punishable by up to a year in jail.
  • Although the Stuart Police Department released little information on the five guys at Five Guys, the officers apparently got a kick out of the arrests. They posted a picture of the restaurant on Facebook with the caption, “Can you guess how many guys were arrested at this location on Wednesday?”

Get Ready For A Hot Weekend Across The Country

  • The US is in the midst of the heatwave. From coast-to-coast, there is little relief in sight going into the weekend.
  • According to the National Weather Service, 100 local heat records are set to be broken on Saturday across the country.
  • Most of those records aren’t for high temperatures. They are for night-time lows. Some parts of the East Coast will only dip into the upper 70’s to low 80’s in the night hours.
  • Air quality could be very bad in cities from Baltimore to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Stay cool and check on each other.

 

Don’t Call Them ‘Manholes’ In Berkeley, CA

  • Berkeley, CA is getting rid of manholes.  Well, not the actual holes themselves, but they’ll now be known as ‘maintenance holes’ within the city limits.
  • The Berkeley City Council just passed a new ordinance banning ‘gendered language’ from the city code.
  • Some other changes include replacing ‘firemen’ with ‘firefighters’ and any instance of ‘he’ or ‘she’ with ‘they’.  Even the phrase ‘men and women’ is being replaced with ‘people’.
  • City Council member Rigel Robinson said “A male-centric municipal code doesn’t reflect the reality of the city of Berkeley”.

 

Warning: Leaving a Water Bottle in Your Car Can Set it on Fire

  • Who knew? As most of the country deals with a heat wave, firefighters are reminding people to stay hydrated. But when you do, don’t leave half-full water bottles in the car; they could start fires.
  • “If you do leave a bottle of water in your vehicle and the sun catches it just right, it could act like a magnifying glass,” says Charlottesville firefighter Frank Scopelliti. “[It could] heat a specific spot and start a smoldering fire that could eventually become a real fire.”
  • Acknowledging that the idea might sound a little far-fetched, the Midwest City Fire Department in Oklahoma conducted an experiment, holding a water bottle in front of a piece of paper on a sunny day. Sure enough, the concentrated sunlight quickly burned a hole right through the paper.
