Zooey Deschanel Splits From Husband Of 4 Years: ‘We Are Better Off As Friends’
After four years of marriage, Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik are splitting up.
In a joint statement to Entertainment Tonight, the actress and the film producer wrote, “After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners.”
“We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all, our children,” the statement continued. “Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.”
In 2015, Deschanel and Pechenik secretly wed in an intimate ceremony, which took place less than a year after they started dating. The couple announced their engagement in January of that same year. This followed the news that they were having their first child together. The two are parents to 4-year-old daughter Elsie Otter and 2-year-old son Charlie Wolf.
Deschanel was previously married to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard, who she divorced in 2012.
