Good Morning Friends!!

Lee County deputies arrested a man after he was caught on home surveillance video tackling and punching his dog three times. The surveillance video was posted to the Ring Neighbors App just before noon on Sunday. The video was taken from a home on 18th Street SW near Hazel Avenue South in Lehigh Acres. Deputies responded to the report just before 2 p.m. and arrested the dog owner, 28-year old Joshua Schlotmann,. Lee County Domestic Animal Services took the dog, “Thanos”, into their custody. “Not here. Not now. Not ever,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I’ll keep throwing these abusers in jail. Whatever it takes to get the message across. I won’t stand for any type of abuse!”

A bad smell has been lingering on some Sanibel Island beaches since last Wednesday. “It smells like mold and dirty socks,” said Tania Rosales, a visitor from Westchester, New York. Others are comparing the smell to a swamp and calling it musty. Last week, the city’s director of Natural Resources said the red drift algae is not to blame for the smell. He said the stench seems to be coming from the water. They have been testing it and said there are no signs of red tide, but some say the smell is similar. Right now, there are no water quality advisories. An update on the water quality should come in at this morning’s Sanibel City Council meeting, whichis open to the public. It starts at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall.

A North Port woman spotted a bobcat trotting down her street early Friday morning. She spotted the bobcat near Bessemer Avenue and Florala Street. Neighbors said the video is just one example of the many wild animals popping up in their backyard. Bobcats, like the one in the video, are walking their streets and terrorizing their pets. FWC says not to leave your small pets outdoors or in screen enclosures unattended. They also suggest walking your dog on a leash. Neighbors are pointing the finger at construction for the number of bobcat sightings.
