Infant dies after testing positive for coronavirus in Chicago
An infant from Cook County in Chicago died from the coronavirus, according to Illinois health officials.
This marks the first infant death from the virus in the United States. Previously, one other infant death was reported in China.
“There has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of death,” Ezike told NBC55 Chicago.
The state health department in Chicago has reported 3,491 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, including 47 deaths.
