A large number of dry wood termites have started swarming Southwest Florida, according to NBC2.

The predicted weather conditions for May and June will welcome even more of the pests, which is the last thing we all need amid the coronavirus pandemic and officially entering hurricane season on June 1.

Termites can reportedly cause more than $5 billion in damages in the United States every year. Homeowners should remain vigilant as early discovery and prevention are crucial to falling victim to a termite infestation.

Homeowners should work to eliminate moisture problems and remove termite food sources, according to the Truly Nolan website. The use of insecticides like borates can also protect against termites and wood decay fungi.
