Dr. Fauci Thinks States Like Florida Should ‘seriously look at shutting down’
According to Dr. Fauci “What we are seeing is exponential growth. It went from an average of about 20,000 to 40,000 and 50,000. That’s doubling. If you continue doubling, two times 50 is 100,” he said on a Wall Street Journal podcast. “Any state that is having a serious problem, that state should seriously look at shutting down. It’s not for me to say because each state is different.”
Despite a major surge in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has said the state will not order businesses to close again.Florida reported 9,989 new cases yesterday (July 8th).
Some local cities are taking steps of their own with Punta Gorda, Sanibel, and Fort Myers Beach making masks mandatory. Fort Myers is also considering the mandate.
Florida was among the first states to reopen, allowing restaurants and stores to open with restrictions on May 4th.
