Top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said the public should rethink the way they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving.
“What we really have to do is double down on safety measures,” said Dr. Fauci in a recent interview with CBS Evening News.
37 states are currently surging with COVID-19 cases, he said. Raising concerns for the fall and winter months coming ahead.
Recent studies have revealed that COVID-19 can live up to 28 days on surfaces like money and smartphones while in cooler temperatures. That compares with 17 days of survival for the flu virus.
“That is unfortunately a risk, when you have people coming from out of town, gathering together in an indoor setting,” he said. “It is unfortunate because that’s such a sacred part of American tradition — the family gathering around Thanksgiving. But that is a risk” he expressed.
There have been at least 215,000 deaths in the U.S., with more than 7,875,000 cases across the country, The Washington Post reported.
