What You Need To Know About The Diverging Diamond Interchange Project in Fort Myers
Construction crews are set to begin working on the “Diverging Diamond Interchange Project” starting at Colonial Boulevard and I-75, according to FDOT.
The new traffic improvement project started on January 11th and aims to improve the accessibility to I-75 and will bring a continuous traffic flow to the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/ Ortiz Avenue.
I-75 will be widened to add an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial to MLK Boulevard and emergency stopping sites will be added at each exit.
The Diverging Diamond Interchange is going to cost upwards of $52.7 million and is expected to be completed in 2024.
This project became a necessity after a 24% increase in population in Lee County.
