11 a.m. Advisory

Tropical Storm Elsa is about 100 miles south-southwest of Marco Island and about 65 miles west of Key West, according to the 11 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph with wind gusts hitting 70 mph and is moving north-northwest at 10 mph, the NHC said.

Even though Southwest Florida is no longer in the forecast cone, we should expect heavy tropical rain later this afternoon and evening as we’re in the eastern half of the storm also known as the “dirty side of the storm,” according to NBC2.

The eastern sides of tropical storms and hurricanes come with the most impactful weather, NBC2 said.

Tropical Storm warnings were in effect for the entire coast of Southwest Florida and inland Lee and Charlotte counties as of 11:30 a.m.

On Wednesday morning, Elsa is forecast to make landfall along the north Florida Gulf coast and then move across the southeastern United States through Thursday.
