Tropical Storm Fred Expected to Form Today with Florida in Forecast Cone
Potential tropical cyclone six is expected to become Tropical Storm Fred today, according to the National Hurricane Center.
According to the 8 a.m. advisory, the disturbance is about 105 miles west of Guadeloupe and about 270 miles east-southeast of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Potential tropical cyclone six has maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour and is moving west-northwest at 17 miles per hour.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic on the south coast from Punta Palenque eastward and on the north coast from Cabo Frances Viejo eastward.
Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next day or so and the disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm later this morning, according to the NHC.
It is expected to pass just south of Florida through the Straits and the Keys by this weekend, or potentially even make landfall in South Florida as Tropical Storm Fred.
