It’s summer and time to dive into some really important information, like the most popular milkshake flavors by state. Thanks the folks at RTA Outdoor Living for doing the grueling research, checking out Google Trends over the past 12 months, and maybe even doing some sampling on their own.  What they found might surprise you.

Like the most popular milkshake in the Sunshine State is Nutella. Really? I’m not sure what I thought it would be but Nutella was not even close. Now I’m suddenly craving one.

Nationwide, strawberry takes the cake, or the milk shake, top spot. That was one of my top guesses, along with chocolate. Chocolate came in second overall.

Check out the stats in this chart for the most popular milkshake flavors by state.

BOOZY MILKSHAKE

Boozy milkshakes make great desserts when your out, or even at home. They are really easy to make and fun to tweak along the way. Just take a shot of your favorite liquor and dump it in the blender. Now, a little more thought than that would help. Gin would not make the best partnership with chocolate (perhaps strawberry) but vodka would, or Amaretto, Baileys–you get the picture.

If you have a favorite boozy coffee drink, make it but also make sure it is chilled then add it to the scoops of ice cream in your blender. Vanilla and chocolate make great bases for this. The fun part is tasting along the way, to get the portions and texture to your liking.

Sunday (July 17th) was National Ice Cream Day and there were all kinds of sales, BOGO’s and such in the supermarkets and they will likely continue in some form through the summer. It’s a great time to stock up on your favorites and make a milkshake for a change.
