Netflix Really Doesn’t Want You To Share Anymore
Remember when Netflix used to encourage you to share your password? Remember their memes encouraging you to share? Well, Netflix has made it clear that they don’t want you sharing your passwords anymore and they’d like everyone to have their own account.
To that end, they’ve done a few things. Like creating a lower-cost, ad-tiered service for penny pinchers. This will allow some customers to subscribe for a lower price at a lower resolution. But they’ll be served up ads while streaming their tv shows, movies and more – up to 4-5 minutes of ads per hour.
However, if you’re going to set up your own account after a history of sharing someone else’s account, you’ll want your own watch history and settings to be on your new account.
Netflix is helping with this. They’re making it easy to transfer your profile from an account you may be sharing to your own account. This will allow you to carry over your viewing history. Plus, your “My List,” personalized recommendations as well as various other settings.
It’s called Profile Transfer. And it will soon be accessible to all Netflix customers in the coming weeks. You’ll receive a notification once it’s enabled on your account.
Netflix is also experimenting with charging an extra fee for shared accounts in several countries.
So, the next time you’re going to Neflix and chill, you better make sure you have your own account. Netflix doesn’t want you to share anymore. And if you’re currently sharing an account with someone else, Profile Transfer will help get you up and running with your own account and account settings.
