Florida Is Home to 3 Of The Deadliest Roads In The Country. Driving these days can be frustrating. Traffic, long commute times and idiot drivers are just a few of the annoyances we all have to deal with day to day.
But did you know that on top of the usual frustrations, there are several roads in Florida that are among the most dangerous in the United States.
According to a recent story from News Channel 8 in Tampa, Florida is home to 3 of the deadliest roads in the country.
US Route 1, Interstates 95 and 4 are the roads with the highest incidence of traffic fatalities in the Sunshine State.
Interstate 95, which stretches more than 1,900 miles from Florida to Main, is the 17th deadliest road in the US, according to a Find By Plate study. The study found that I-95 incidents are often serious with multiple vehicles involved as well as high speed accidents.
In central Florida, Interstate 4 is even more dangerous, coming in as the 3rd most deadly road in the US. The highway stretches between Daytona Beach and Tamp and has a reported 1.4 deaths per mile. And since I-4 runs through Orlando, a “tourist hotspot,” according to Find By Plate, “there are many rental car drivers on this stretch of road that are prone to distracted driving.”
And, believe it or not, the deadliest road in the country also runs through Florida. It’s US Route 1 which runs north/south and connects Miami to the Florida Keys. And since Route 1 is made up of several “ocean bridges,” problems can arise quickly.
If you’ve got to get on one of these roads in Florida, or any Florida road, do yourself a favor and slow it down. Keep your eyes on the road, not your phone. And give yourself some extra time to get where you’re going. So that you’ll actually get there, safely, and on time!
