A Sweet Surprise for SWFL: The Hidden Danger in Your Favorite Easter Candy
Marshmallow Peeps are everywhere this time of year. Those fluffy, sugary treats are the perfect addition to any Easter basket. However, did you know that Easter Candy also comes with a side of danger?
If you’re one of those people who celebrates Easter by chowing down on Peeps like they’re going out of style, then you might want to think twice before taking another bite. According to the New York Post, these seemingly innocent little marshmallows contain a known carcinogen called Red Dye #3. And no, we’re not talking about some fancy-schmancy brand of Peeps that only the elite can afford. We’re talking about the regular old purple and pink ones that you can find at any grocery store.
Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “But wait, isn’t Red Dye #3 banned in cosmetics? Why is it still allowed in food?” That’s an excellent question! Unfortunately, no one really has an answer for that. All we know is that the FDA says it’s okay, so it must be, right?
But don’t take my word for it. The company that makes Peeps says that all their products are in compliance with FDA regulations. Just see for yourself! The company says that all ingredients are listed on the packaging. So, if you’re one of those people who actually reads the fine print on your candy wrappers then you’ll know exactly what you’re getting into.
If you want to risk ingesting a known carcinogen in the name of Easter candy, then by all means, go ahead and indulge in those Peeps. But if you value your health even a little bit, then maybe stick to the chocolate bunnies instead. Trust us, your taste buds and your body will thank you.

Easter baskets are a tradition found around the world. Here’s how to make yours extra special this year.
Easter basket tradition
The tradition of giving Easter baskets is said to date back to medieval times. They were filled with goodies to celebrate the end of lent. In addition, they were often brought to church to be blessed. Today, the Easter Bunny gets credit for the baskets in many households with young children. But Easter baskets have no age limits. When I was in college, my mom and dad would ship a basket to me each year. It was full of my favorite candies as well as dorm room staples and supplies. It always included tooth paste as well. I’m guessing so I would be sure to brush my teeth after eating all of that candy. Haha
I’m trying to put together something fun for my nephews for Easter. It sent me on a search last night where I found these super creative, and mostly easy ideas. I’ve put five of them together for you to check out here. You do not have to have a TikTok account like me to watch the videos. They play directly from this site. Simply scroll down and hit play.
