A Tampa hotel has been named one of the best in the world.
When you think of beautiful hotels, there are so many here in Florida. The Tampa EDITION, Tampa’s first five-star hotel, has been named one of the best in the world.
Some people may look at a hotel as simply just a place to shower and sleep. But if you’re like me, you like to take advantage of all the amenities a hotel has to offer. Staying at a five-star hotel can be the perfect touch to your vacation.
Travel + Leisure has released their list of the best new hotels in the world. On the list are hotels in Istanbul, Paris, Thailand, Zambia, Brazil and yes, Tampa. Tampa has plenty of nice hotels. But what I didn’t realize is that the city didn’t have any five-star hotels until October 2022. The Tampa EDITION came in at #41 on their list of 100.
The magazine says about The Tampa EDITION “You’ll know you’re in Florida the minute you step into the lobby’s verdant forest of palm fronds. And you’ll know you’re at the white-hot Tampa EDITION because, as a guest, you just breezed past a line of locals hoping to get in at one of the hotel’s seven dining spots, now among the city’s most coveted bookings.”
The Tampa EDITION is located in the Water Street district close to the Florida Aquarium, the Riverwalk, Sparkman’s Wharf and the Tampa Bay History Center. In addition to the great location, Travel + Leisure mentions the hotel’s large gym and spa, as well as their “super spacious” rooms. The hotel also features Lilac, a restaurant just added to the Michelin Guide in 2023.

11 Florida restaurants have been added to the 2023 Michelin Guide.
The Michelin Guide was first published in 1900 in France. Michelin tire company created the guide to encourage people to take road trips and use their ties. Over time, the guide evolved into a restaurant review guide. Restaurants receive ratings based on several factors, including the quality of their food, the chef’s skills, the restaurant’s ambiance, and the quality of service.
How are restaurants rated for the guide?
Earning a Michelin star comes with a very high level of prestige. The Michelin Guide considers a restaurant for the guide only after a trusted source, such as a food critic, chef, or previous Michelin inspector, recommends it. A team then reviews the restaurant and assigns it a rating from one to three stars. A one-star rating means it has very good cuisine, while a two-star rating indicates excellent cuisine. The most exceptional restaurants, those worth a special journey, receive three stars. As one can imagine, a Michelin star can profoundly impact a restaurant’s reputation and business.
The 2023 Michelin guide has added 11 restaurants in Florida, located in both Orlando and Tampa. Gwendal Poullennec is the International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. She said in a statement: “Florida’s finest flavors continue to impress the inspectors, who have enjoyed their visits to the Sunshine State. The restaurant teams are clearly inspired to serve the most delectable cuisine to food lovers – day in and day out. We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments and can’t wait to share those new discoveries with gourmets and travelers.”
