The Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star hosted the London Theatre Awards for the second year in a row on Sunday night (April 14). Before the show began, she walked the steps of the Royal Albert Hall wearing a lilac beaded mesh gown with a high thigh slit. As she stopped for photos, Waddingham slammed the paparazzi for making her feel gross and “show leg.”
In a video posted on social media, the talented actress and singer replied to the man, “Oh my God, you’d never say that to a man. Don’t be a d— otherwise, I’ll move off. Don’t say, ‘Show me leg.’ No.” The actress then shook her head and walked off. She turned around and continued to exchange words with the photographer, telling him to “have some manners” and raising her hand at him before moving on.

Fans came to her defense online, with one person calling out the “lecherous” photographer on X (formerly Twitter): “Men like this need their passes for these events to [be] revoked. Women are not your objects to objectify and command to move as you see fit.” Another fan wrote: “Yeah, so what we’re not gonna do is ask women like Hannah Waddingham to get their legs out for pictures… it’s 2024. Grow up, slimey old pap man x.”
A third praised Waddingham and wrote: “The icon and mother that you are Hannah Waddingham.” One fan quoted Waddingham from a 2023 Glamour UK interview: “My Dad taught me to call out misogyny from a young age. I think it’s important that when you see someone behaving badly, you call them out and batter them over the head with it.”
Opening the awards, Waddingham performed “Anything Goes” with singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe. Waddingham will be next seen on the big screen this year in the upcoming The Fall Guy early next month and Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2, out in theaters on May 23.
Succession star Sarah Snook and singer-actress Nicole Scherzinger were among the big winners at the 2024 Olivier Awards on Sunday. Snook picked up the Best Actress gong for her multi-character performance in the Sydney Theatre Company’s version of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. The Pussycat Dolls alum landed Best Actress in a Musical for her turn as Norma Desmond in the recent revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway-bound Sunset Boulevard.
