Florida High School Janitor Caught With Loaded Gun At School
The primary duties of a high school janitor in Florida is to keep the place clean, empty the trash, and to sprinkle that powder down when someone barfs in the hallway. What’s not on the job description is to keep a loaded handgun in the maintenance closet, which is what this Tampa, Florida custodian is accused of doing.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Michael Difabio, a custodian at King High School in Tampa for bringing a firearm on to campus. Wednesday morning, school administration reached out to authorities about a gun that was found secured in a maintenance closet. It was determined that the gun belonged to Michael Difabio, 58, who was employed as a custodian at the school. Difabio has been employed by King High School since January, 2023.
Tampa High School Janitor Out Of A Job
“There is no place for weapons on school grounds. Schools should be sanctuaries where students and staff should feel safe and secure,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The first day of school is just around the corner, and our message is loud and clear, we will not tolerate weapons on campus for any reason.”
Difabio is facing one charge of Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds. At the time of his arrest, Difabio resigned from his job as high school janitor the school.
It’d be interesting to try to find out why he brought a gun to school and stored it in the closet. Was it a simple mistake, or was there more behind this?
School doesn’t even begin until next week in most of Florida and we already have an incident with a gun in a school. Let’s hope this the only one.
