Tuesday was both opening night and press night for the latest show in Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall's Broadway Series. The Neil Diamond Musical opens in Fort Myers to rave reviews from those in attendance. Me included. I was invited to preview the show along with other Southwest Florida media representatives.

The show is called A Beautiful Noise and it tells the stories behind the life and music of Neil Diamond. It offers great insight into the songs and their lyrics.

Diamond's path to stardom began as a song writing grind. I had no idea how many songs he wrote and what mega stars he wrote them for, before embarking on a solo career.

It wasn't just the story that was compelling but also the actor who portrayed Diamond, Nick Fradiani. He brought that story to life. It was like some magic beam was shining down on him channeling the spirit of Diamond.

The minute Nick began singing, I saw people in the crowd turn to look at each other with eyebrows raised, the word "wow" being mouthed. His musical tone, his mannerisms, he nailed the performance.

It was also fun to watch the crowd react by singing along and even dancing at times to the music. And before you ask, yes there is audience participation for Sweet Caroline..."so good so good so good."

Fun fact, one of the original producers of the Broadway musical lives in Naples.

The Neil Diamond Musical opens in Fort Myers and it runs through February 23rd. Tickets are still available.
