Harry Chapin Food Bank is gathering wrapped, frozen turkeys and hams through Nov. 20. The nonprofit will help partner agencies provide Thanksgiving meals across five Southwest Florida counties. The drive started so organizations can hand out meal kits or host holiday dinners for residents who face hunger.
Collection runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays at two locations. Donors can drop off items at 3760 Fowler St. in Fort Myers or at 3940 Prospect Ave., Unit 101 in Naples.
"The whole purpose of Thanksgiving is to be gracious and appreciative for our blessings, and we also want to share our blessings with those who are not as fortunate," said Richard Leber, president and CEO of Harry Chapin Food Bank, according to WINK News.
"No one in our community should go hungry, especially not on Thanksgiving," Leber said.
The nonprofit works with 175 agency partners. They provide food to more than 250,000 neighbors each month. One in eight people in Southwest Florida faces food insecurity, and one in six children struggles with hunger.
