Sunny 106.3's Sheila with KC and the Sunshine Band at Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee

Sunny 106.3 presented disco music royalty KC and the Sunshine Band with special guest Evelyn “Champagne” King. It was all live in concert at Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee. Saturday, March 18, 2023. Sheila was on hand to host the show and help throw out lots of t-shirts. Her arm's still a little sore.

As you can see by the pictures, KC and the Sunshine Band are as popular today as they were when they first danced into the music scene nearly 50 years ago.

Harry Wayne Casey – KC for short – developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk. Dabbled with a hint of a Latin percussion groove. He has an impressive string of hits like “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It),” and “Shake Your Booty.” KC and the Sunshine Band has sales of over 100 million records. Nine Grammy nominations. Three Grammy Awards. Not to mention an American Music Award. KC and the Sunshine Band was one of the most progressive bands of the 1970s and is credited with changing the sound of modern pop music.

The show opener, Evelyn “Champagne” King’s big break came at age 15. That's when she was discovered while she sang at work. She was subbing for her sister as a cleaning woman at Philadelphia's Sigma Studios. Evelyn was signed to a contract, and her first album “Smooth Talk” produced the disco smash “Shame.” The follow-up, “I Don't Know If It's Right,” was a major mid-tempo R&B hit. In 1981, “I'm in Love” was a #1 dance hit. She followed up with the “Get Loose” album in 1982 and another smash, the classic anthem “Love Come Down.” Not only did King survive as a singing star into the 1980s, she also is still recording and touring frequently today.
