Allergies in Florida are no joke and 7 cities in The Sunshine State have made a list of allergy capitals of the US.
Florida may be a paradise for beach-goers and Disney fanatics, but for those with seasonal allergies, it can be a nightmare. In fact, some would say that allergies in Florida are so bad, they make you wish you were somewhere else – like the surface of the sun. Oh wait.
If you’ve ever spent any time in Florida, you know that the state is a breeding ground for all kinds of allergens. I never really had allergies when I lived up north, and now about twice a year I feel them flaring up. Between the humidity, the heat and the endless array of pollen-producing plants, it’s no wonder that so many people here suffer from sneezing, coughing, and itchy eyes. Pollen, feel free to go away any time now.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation just put out its annual Allergy Capitals report for 2023. In it, they ranked the top 100 most populated cities in the US and where they rank for how bad allergies are. Their rankings are based on tree, grass and weed pollen. Also, the use of over-the-counter allergy medication use and how many board-certified allergists and immunologists there are available. The number one spot went to Wichita, Kansas but it might not surprise you that 7 cities in Florida made the list.
