Yes, she wants the title all to herself. If she registers it and it is approved, that would mean no one else can legally use the title Queen of Christmas. Not even Martha Steward when it comes to her outstanding Christmas decorations and table settings.

And while many fans would agree Mariah deserves it, there are some who don’t think it’s a phrase that should be trademarked, by anyone.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” is the best selling Christmas record of all time. However, numerous recording industry sources, give that honor to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

From the movie Frozen, it’s “Do You Wanna Build A Snowman,” that has stepped in right behind Mariah’s classic song. I bet you have that song stuck in your head now that you’ve read this. Especially if you are a parent of young children.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” is a classic, you can’t deny that. But is it right or even fair to bestow such a permanent title on one person, for the rest of time. Some at Sunny 106-3, The Christmas Station, agree that Mariah is indeed the Queen of Christmas. But to trademark the name does cause one to pause.

So just who are the other Christmas divas in the trademark fray? Elizabeth Chan and Darlene Love. You might not know their names but there is a good chance you know their Christmas music. Check it out.

  • Elizabeth Chan

I honestly have not heard about Elizabeth’s Chan Queen of Christmas designation until right now. She claims to have written Christmas songs for other artists and has released seven Christmas albums.  She thinks no one, including Mariah, should have dibs on anything with the word Christmas in it.

  • Darlene Love

You will likely remember Darlene Love’s song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) from the movie Home Alone 2; Lost in New York. She says David Letterman dubbed her the Queen of Christmas nearly three decades prior to Mariah Carey’s Christmas hit.

OK, I have to do it. Here is the video for Mimi’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
