Here are your Weekend Vibes, what’s happening in Southwest Florida May 12-14. First and foremost, it is Mother’s Day Weekend. If you have not made reservations for brunch with mom, you might be out of luck. Many restaurants and hotels have great specials this weekend to celebrate mom. Also, if your mom loves fun in the sun, Sun Splash Family Water Park in Cape Coral is offering free admission to mom’s both Saturday and Sunday.

Floating along the Lazy River in a water park sounds like a great thing to do this weekend with mom and the entire family.

Other things happening in Southwest Florida

There is quite a variety of things going on from a Celtic festival to a Shriner’s circus and everything in between. If you love animals, you have to stop by the 4th Annual Kitten Shower at The Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers. More on that as you scroll down. Finally, sports lovers have a big local weekend. The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels have an at home series that is loaded with all kinds of events. In addition, hockey fans check this out. The Florida Everblades are playing at home in the Southern Division Finals for the Kelly Cup. They lead the series 3 games to zero. Games are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday nights at Hertz Arena.

One more thing, we have passed the 7-month mark since Ian hit our coast. Thankfully, many things are slowly getting better. However, there is still so much need in our area. Life is still challenging for many many people. If you feel like getting out and about, we have a few ideas here. But then again, if you are not feeling so great mentally that is OK too.   • King Tut Exhibit

    If you haven’t seen this exhibit yet, this weekend is your last chance. “Tutankhamun: Return of the King Exhibition” is at IMAG History and Science Center in downtown Fort Myers and features replicas of artifacts from the Egyptian pharaoh’s tomb that was found in 1922. You’ll see a mummy, King Tut’s funeral mask and lots more.

  • Celtic Fest

    A celebration of Celtic heritage is happening at Fisherman’s Village in Punta Gorda Saturday from noon to 9pm. The entertainment is jam packed with live music, dancing and more. It’s fun for the entire family.

  • Fort Myers Mighty Mussels

    The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels are in town this week and have all kinds of events surrounding their baseball games. Friday night is Teacher Appreciation Night (free admission for teachers) with fireworks following the game. Saturday is Bark in the Dark (bring your dog to the game) followed by a country concert featuring a Garth Brooks tribute artist. Sunday, you can have brunch at the stadium and there is a full slate of kids activities. The Mussels play the Tampa Tarpons in this series.

    Mussels Mash Four Homers in 8-3 Victory Over the Tarpons

    Andrew Cossetti launched two homers and the Mussels picked up their second consecutive win Wednesday after beating the Tampa Tarpons 8-3 at Hammond Stadium. The Mussels (15-14) connected on a season-high four homers, including back-to-back shots from Cossetti and Carlos Aguiar, as well

  • Araba Shriners Circus at Lee Civic Center

    The circus is back but for one day only, Friday. However, there are three shows. There is a petting zoo for the kids prior to the shows. The shows feature clowns, jugglers, acrobats, and lots of circus related fun. Ticket prices vary but start at $16. Lee Civic Center is on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers.

  • Kitten Shower

    It’s the fourth year The Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers has hosted this Kitten Shower and people love it. Saturday from 11 to 2 in suite 117 near Center Court. Meet and hold adorable kittens and maybe adopt one while you are there. In addition, donations are being taken for the Gulf Coast Humane Society to help with the overflow of kittens. There will be entertainment, giveaways and more.

  • Music in the Park

    The Bonita Springs Concert Band performs at Riverside Park Sunday from 2-4. Bring your lawn chairs and spend an afternoon in the park with the entire family. The concert is fee.
