Happy's back on the green! Adam Sandler is once again stepping into the shoes of one of his most iconic characters, as Netflix announced the start of production on Happy Gilmore 2. Along with this exciting news, Netflix also dropped some major casting surprises, including the return of a couple of fan favorites from the original film.

In a social media reveal, Netflix confirmed that both Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen are reprising their roles, meaning Shooter McGavin and Virginia Venit are back for round two with Happy. But that’s not all. Bad Bunny and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce are also joining the Happy Gilmore 2 cast.

Back in August, when the sequel was still in its early stages, Sandler himself spilled the beans on Kelce's involvement while prepping for the NFL season. Appearing on The Tonight Show, Sandler teased, “We have something nice for Travis,” when asked about the buzz surrounding his role in the movie.

Kelce, for his part, played it cool on his New Heights show, staying cryptic before the official news dropped. “I didn’t even know there was a job opening for Happy Gilmore 2,” Kelce joked. “But if there is, I’ll be a f---ing extra. Anything to get around Happy Gilmore, an Adam Sandler film, or set—count me in... Who knows? Theories can come true. Theories can be true and just people don’t know about it," he added mysteriously. "So I might even be in the talking [phase], and nobody knows about it, but I could also not be in the talking."

As soon as production news hit, Reddit exploded with fan reactions. One user shared, “I’m excited! Comedy sequels long after the original have such a strong track record. Zoolander 2, Anchorman 2, Dumb and Dumber To." Another fan, a bit more practical, said, “Will it be bad? Probably. Will it make lots of money for Adam and his friends? Yep." Meanwhile, a hopeful soul chimed in, “Happy Gilmore is my favorite Sandler movie of that era. Not as immature as Billy Madison but not as rom-com as Wedding Singer. I just hope it lives up to the charm of the first.”

Adam Sandler recently posted a photo of Happy Gilmore’s iconic hockey jersey hanging on a rack, with the caption, “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.” The teaser immediately sent fans straight to the comments. One fan joked, “Not me thinking this was a random account at Goodwill complaining about the prices LMAO.” Others got creative with suggestions for the sequel. “WE NEED TO SEE GRAMMA (OR HAPPY) GETTING REVENGE ON STILLER,” one fan excitedly proposed.
