Let’s be honest:  Our clothes closets could always use a bit of organizing.  Sometimes, however, certain closets need so much TLC that you don’t even know where to begin.

Fear not!  When you do set aside the time to tackle your cluttered closet, arm yourself with these five tips!

Clear Everything Out

The first thing everyone should do when organizing their closet is simply clear everything out.  Per Do It On A Dime, you wear 20% of your clothing 80% of the time.  Think about that when you survey all of your clothes and shoes, and separate things into “keep,” “donate” and “toss” piles.

Multi-Level Hangers = Closet’s New BFF

This is a great tip, especially for those with smaller closets.  If your hanging space is limited, utilize your vertical storage with multi-level hangers like the ones shown in this video from HGTV Handmade.

Organize Tops/Bottoms By Type

Simple, but effective tip from RyMingTahn when it comes to your tops and bottoms.  Organize them by type.  Whether that’s your t-shirts, long sleeves, button-up, slacks, jeans, etc.

Shoe Storage

This tip comes from Home Organizing by Alejandra.tv.  Use an over-the-door pocket organizer to store your everyday shoes, and store your fancy shoes in clear bins to protect them from any potential elements.

Your Purse Collection:  Russian Doll Style

A lot of women have many purses, and they’re usually stored on a closet shelf.  Take this tip from Lavendaire and store your smaller purses inside your larger purses to help conserve space.
