Stevie Nicks on the Infection that Caused Show Postponement
Stevie Nicks was forced to postpone a show on July 6 in Glasgow and made up that show last week. During the show, the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer went into detail about the infection that led to the show postponement.
Nicks addressed the crowd saying, “I don’t know what happened. I just got this weird infection, and it just went crazy … I finally just looked at my assistant — it was like 2 in the morning — and I said, ‘I think we need to go to emergency.'”
Nicks talked about how she and her staff were staying at a castle in Glasgow when this happened. Fortunately, they received help from the butler at the castle, who Nicks called a “wonderful man.”
She says, ” … [The butler] throws us in his BMW sedan, which is so great, and off we sped through the night to a hospital. And I was there for two days, and then they let me go back to the castle, and we canceled this show.”
Nicks concluded, ” … I would be damned if I wasn’t coming back here.”
Nicks still has two more postponed shows from her latest tour to make up, but they are months away. Those two dates are Sept. 24 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and Sept. 28 in Hershey, Pa.
Stevie Nicks Tour Highlight: Harry Styles
Nicks’ latest tour has been filled with memorable moments, but one of the biggest came during her July 12 show at London's Hyde Park. The iconic singer was joined by Harry Styles to perform the Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide.”
The performance was dedicated to Christine McVie in honor of what would have been her 81st birthday.
In fan-shot footage, Nicks said of the “Landslide” performance, “I asked Harry to do this, and it’s always heavy to ask someone to come and sing a song with you when you’re singing about your best friend that died so suddenly and so sadly. What I want you to know is that Christine was Harry’s girl, she was my girl, she was your girl. She was from here. And she loved all of us. And today was her birthday.”
She continued, “It’s taken me all this time to be able to even try and deal with this situation. One thing that my mom used to say to me when I was little, when I was hurt, she’d go, ‘Stevie, when you’re hurt, you always run to the stage.’ And that’s what I’ve been doing ever since Chris passed away is running to the stage, because the only people that have been able to help me to get over this has been all of you.”
Nicks concluded, “And you have done that every night like clockwork. You have made me better, and I want you to know how much I appreciate that. And, so, we go on. Thank you, everybody. Harry, thank you. I thank you. We thank you.”
