Starting today, the US Army Corps of Engineers is increasing flows from Lake Okeechobee. The lake level was at 14.5 feet on Thursday. That’s higher than the lake level was when Hurricane Irma hit last year.
And U.S. Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson have proposed a bill that would address our toxic algae blooms. Rubio and Nelson are co-sponsoring the South Florida Clean Coastal Waters Act that would direct a Task Force to study the causes and consequences of algae blooms and the federal resources available to help solve the water crisis. 2 of our Gubermatorial candidates, Ron Desantis and Andrew Gillum will be in our area today to view the algae bloom first hand.
