Bacon...made from banana peels? Once you read the above headline, you were either intrigued or enraged. Regardless, let's explore this recipe that has now gone viral.

Banana Peel Bacon comes via Charles Hunter III and his website The Salted Table. The Nashville-based personal chef explains, "I was inspired to make this after I saw Tabitha Brown try it in one of her cooking videos. Apparently, the Facebook algorithm thought I needed this in my life. But after Tabitha made the faux bacon, she expressed that she was not a fan, and I saw that as a challenge to make a version that was tasty."

So, how does Hunter get banana peels to taste like bacon? Obviously, a lot of seasonings, spices and other ingredients are involved in creating a marinade. Among those ingredients are soy sauce, onion powder, dark brown sugar, liquid smoke and five other items.

Hunter shared images from making the Banana Peel Bacon via the Instagram post below. If you are interested in making this version of vegan bacon, the full recipe can be found at TheSaltedTable.com.
