Diddy Clarifies Tweets Made About Sha’Carri Richardson
Diddy took some heat on Twitter in support of Sha’Carri Richardson on Wednesday. The rap mogul tweeted out, “It’s f—ed up and my heart is broken for @itskerrii having her lifelong dream stripped away for using a legal substance. I’m tired of white people sitting in a room making up decisions that affect our hopes and dreams. They will keep treating our athletes like slaves and entertainment until we shut down on these people!”

Diddy ended the tweet with his signature Twitter sign-off and adding Richardson’s hashtag in support. “Said from LOVE with love. #LETHERRUN #LETHERRUN #LETHERRUN” However, Twitter was not letting Diddy have this one. One user commented, “Dude she blew it, she knew the rules. That simple. May not like the rules but she knew them. She chose weed over running sounds like a personal decision. Stop always making excuses and start dealing with the consequences of bad decisions”
Another fleshed out her thoughts as well, “Apart from its not a legal substance in many places, just because parts of the US have legalised it doesn’t mean it’s legal everywhere. And just because a substance is legal doesn’t mean it’s allowed to be used by competitive athletes. They know the rules they have to follow.”
One user called Diddy out on how race shouldn’t play a part in the Olympics ruling, “Now Mr.combs not everything is about race, some rules are there for a reason and they can’t be bent for one person just because y’all idolize her, it’s sucks that she’s disqualified but she did what she did, owned up to it and now it’s time to move on”
Diddy took the backlash and tweeted again to clarify his stance, “To be absolutely clear about my previous tweet, the point I’m making is that marijuana has been used against my people since some white people in an office (DEA/FBI) saw it as a way to entrap Black Jazz artists to shut down the movement happening in Harlem.”
Diddy continued: “Now, to see them using this against a young Black woman that is on the edge of greatness, all because some white men decided to make it illegal is shameful.” The rap mogul ended his tweet calling out Michael Phelps’s previous mishaps and emphasizing his point on marijuana not being a performance-enhancing drug. “Let me be very clear, marijuana does not make you run faster. That’s a fact. This whole situation is bulls—, and if they let Michael Phelps swim they should #LETHERRUN!”
Richardson has also taken to social media to respond to fans on her no longer being eligible to participate in the 2021 Tokoyo Olympics. “The support my community I thank y’all , the negative forget y’all and enjoy the games because we all know it won’t be the same,” Richardson tweeted on July 4. Richardson, who is only 21, made it known that even though she will not be competing this year she is ready for her next chance on the track.
“I’m sorry, I can’t be y’all Olympic Champ this year but I promise I’ll be your World Champ next year,” Richardson tweeted shortly after.
