Donald Glover has finally dropped a teaser for season 3 of Atlanta. It's been about three years since the season two finale of FX's Atlanta leaving fans wondering it will ever return back to their screens.

Soundtracked by Sun Ra’s “It’s After the End of the World" the trailer shows various desolated locations later revealing a close-up of the character Paper Boi played by Brian Tyree Henry.

Production on Season 3 has been completed and season 4 has been greenlit. The show’s writing team had completed all of the scripts for Atlanta seasons 3 and 4 in the early months of the pandemic per the outlet.

The third season was ordered in June 2018, several weeks after the show’s second season ended. The long pause between Season 2 and Season 3 was ascribed to Glover’s busy schedule prior to the pandemic per IndieWire. Glover released his fourth studio album, wrote and produced Guava's Island starring himself and Rihanna, as well as voiced Simba in the 2019 production of Disney's The Lion King remake.

Atlanta is expected to drop in the first half of 2022 and FX chairman John Landgraf explained why an actual date has not yet been revealed.

"The reason I can't lock down a date right now is that it's being driven by Donald Glover and Hiro Murai's schedule and availability," he shared per Harpers Bazaar. "I think we'll be able to lock down an actual date for Season 3 and maybe for both cycles within the next couple of months."
