Rami Malek Is Producing And Starring In His Own Movie
Rami Malek attends The 2023 Met Gala Celebrating "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 01, 2023 in New York City.
Rami Malek is taking on dual roles for his next film: producer and lead actor. Malek, 41, revealed to ET at the Met Gala Monday night (May 1), “I’m making my own film. I produced it. Producing and starring. It’s called the Amateur, and I’ll be shooting in a month.”
Per Deadline, the story follows a CIA cryptographer who, after his wife is tragically killed in a London terrorist attack, demands his bosses go after them. When it becomes clear they won’t act due to conflicting internal priorities, he blackmails the agency into training him and letting him go after them himself. The film will be directed by James Hawes (AppleTV+’s Slow Horses).
The Bohemian Rhapsody actor has another highly-anticipated film coming up: Christopher Nolan’s wartime thriller Oppenheimer. He is to star alongside Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Florence Pugh (Jean Tatlock), Robert Downey Jr. (Lewis Strauss), Matt Damon (Leslie Groves), Jack Quaid (Richard Feynman), Emily Blunt (Kitty Oppenheimer), and a host of other stars.
Oppenheimer, which will premiere on July 21, is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography titled American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The biopic follows Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who famously led the Manhattan Project — the effort to create an atomic bomb during World War II.
Last February, Murphy told Esquire that “the difference with this story is everybody knows what happened. But [Christopher Nolan] is telling it in a different way. That’s all I can say.”
Murphy shared that the role felt “immense and terrifying” when it was first presented to him. “But if I felt it was easy, I wouldn’t be interested,” he continued. “I do get nervous, anxious and insecure, but then you go, ‘F— it. I have been doing it for 25 years and I have done it before. So just keep going.'”

2023 Met Gala Red Carpet Disasters and Triumphs
Fashion’s hottest night of the year is back. The 2023 Met Gala took place Monday night (May 1). This year’s event pays tribute to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who was the creative director of the French fashion house Chanel. The exclusive event is intended to honor the iconic fashion designer, who passed away in 2019 from complications of pancreatic cancer.
Lagerfeld helmed some of the most recognizable fashion houses in the world (Chloé and Fendi) in his 65 years in fashion. Attendees are required to honor Karl’s fashion influence, which is wide open to interpretation, given his long and varied career that spans various luxury brands and eras of fashion (from the 1950s to his last collection in 2019).
The lineup includes longtime Chanel collaborator Penélope Cruz, actress and writer Michaela Coel, singer Dua Lipa and tennis legend Roger Federer. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who had a close friendship with the designer, was there as always.
“Karl was so much more than our greatest and most prolific designer,” Anna said in a statement after Karl’s passing. “His creative genius was breathtaking and to be his friend was an exceptional gift. Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was funny, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind. I will miss him so very much.”
