Out of all the major TV moments in history, which one was the most watched? As it turns out, the most recent Super Bowl was the most-watched TV show in U.S. history. According to Nielsen Media Research, the game's original total of 113 million viewers, first reported in February, was incorrect. Its new findings now put the total number of viewers at 115.1 million.
After the numbers were adjusted, Fox, the broadcaster of Super Bowl LVII, put out a statement. They said that Nielsen's restated the viewership for FOX Sports' presentation of Super Bowl LVII as 115.1 million viewers. This makes it the most-watched Super Bowl in history. "This revision is the product of a thorough review by Nielsen that revealed irregularities in the encoding that enables Nielsen's measurement of TV viewing as well as issues with the out-of-home measurement of Super Bowl LVII."
Recently, Nielsen Media Research shared a statement with The Athletic on the updated numbers and its efforts to be transparent in its audience measurement.
"The Super Bowl continues to be a unique media event in terms of its size and diversity in how audiences watch the game. We appreciate the support and collaboration from our partners at FOX and the NFL to correct previously unknown errors to ultimately provide a more accurate measure for this year's total audience for the game."
Viewers who were supposed to be credited towards Fox were given to the NFL Network instead. The error resulted in 2.1 million fewer viewers being given to Fox's total.
In February, Nielsen said the game had been watched by 113 million, which made it the third most-watched television show of all time.
What Are The Other Most Viewed Events In Television History?
As far as other top events that were not a Super Bowl include the 1969 moon landing with an estimated 125 to 150 million viewers, 1983's series finale of M*A*S*H with over 105.9 million viewers, and former President Richard Nixon’s resignation with over 110.0 million viewers says TVInsider.com.
TV Supporting Characters With Main Character Energy
Supporting characters in TV shows are often friends who know the main character better than anyone else. Sometimes side characters in TV shows have the tendency to become protagonists in a story that’s not their own. A lot of supporting characters have truly shined in their roles. The best supporting characters make fans want to learn more about them, or for them to take a larger role.
In some cases, support characters do get some sort of spin-off series. For instance, Saul from Breaking Bad got a prequel series, Better Call Saul. Frasier from Cheers had his own very successful series, Frasier. There's also Zoey Johnson from Black-ish who spun into Grown-ish and Sam Puckett from iCarly who ended up in Sam & Cat.
Here, we've listed side characters that exude main character energy or absolutely steal the show. At times, the official main character took a back seat to their supporting castmate.
An example would be Michael Scott from The Office. Though he may be the quotable showstopper of the show, side characters like Dwight, Stanley, and Kevin would often steal the scene.
Some of the supporting characters we listed are from shows like The Walking Dead, Chidi from The Good Place, Stranger Things, and Emily In Paris.
Here are TV supporting characters with main character energy.
