JetBlue Will Stop Charging For Carry-On Bag
Low cost carrier JetBlue, with daily flights out of Fort Myers, Florida, is updating it’s policy in a way that’s actually beneficial to the customer. Right!? I was surprised. too.
JetBlue announced it is elevating the value of its Blue Basic fare by including a free carry-on bag for customers flying beginning September 6, 2024, regardless of purchase date. Previously, you would have had to buy an upgraded plan, pay a $65 fee, or find a way to shove all your belongings into a backpack.
Marty St. George, president, JetBlue states “We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.”
JetBlue Legroom.
This is more positive news coming from JetBlue. Last week we reported that the airline, on average, had the most legroom of all the carriers flying out of Fort Myers. You can always use more legroom.
This adds to the other news story that JetBlue does not have any Boeing aircraft in it’s fleet. Boeing has been in the news lately with various maintenance issues. Adding to those issues was the recent admittance by Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun who acknowledged that the company “has retaliated against whistleblowers“. JetBlue has 291 aircraft and none are Boeing planes.
Due Diligence
I never take anything at face value, so I did a check. I wanted to see if flights after September 6th (when the free carry-on policy starts) would be more expensive. They were not. $69 flights in August were still $69 flights if you flew in September. So it doesn’t look like they’re trying to hide the cost, just no longer charging for carry-on bags.
So if you avoided flying on JetBlue because of this extra fee, good news. It’ll soon be gone.
