Fort Myers leaders approved a $2.6 million plan for a modern firefighter training facility. This new complex will help emergency teams across the county.
Taking up three acres, the site will include three different buildings: a one-story house mock-up, a two-story storefront, and a tall five-story training tower. The grounds feature four well-placed hydrants — double the water capacity of the old site.
Division Chief Todd Poland said the site will welcome county fire departments and law enforcement for combined training exercises.
"It's going to give us more options for training. Gonna help us train not only the city of Fort Myers firefighters but other county fire departments and law enforcement as well. It's gonna really enhance all that stuff," Poland told Fox 4 Now.
Designers took cues from local Fort Myers architecture for the building plans.
