I’m so excited for the return of  Workday Payday on Sunny 106.3. During happy hour with some of my girl friends last week, one of them said, “I wonder what Gina Birch would do with the $1000 Workday Payday cash if she could win.” Someone immediately chimed in, “Pick up the tab.” I really do like this contest for many reasons. First, I love giving away other people’s money to listeners in Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Lehigh Acres and everywhere else in Southwest Florida.

Second, it is the easiest contest in the world to play. This is how it works. I read a different key word five times a day every weekday; 8am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm and 5pm. When you hear that key word, you have 15 minutes to text the word back to 45911. You can also enter it on the website or on the Sunny 106.3 app. If you have not downloaded the app yet, now is a good time to do so. It is super easy to enter the word this way. Next, a winner is randomly selected nationwide. We will call if you win. So if your phone rings from a number you might not recognize, be sure to pick up.

What would YOU do with an extra $1000 in your pocket. Pay bills might be the first thing that comes to mind. I have some of those to take care of as well. However, let’s forget about bills for a moment. Let’s spend that $1000 on ourselves not our bills.

So, I’ll ask the question again. How would you spend an extra $1000. Me? Well, it changes all of the time, I like to day dream. But as of today, here is a short list. Answering the speculation of what Gina Birch would do with the $1000 Workday Payday cash. To the friend who asked, yes, I WOULD pick up the tab.

• Add To My Carolina Herrera Perfume Collection

  I love a good perfume. It makes a statement. Some people make too much of a statement with theirs. Remember, less is more when it comes to fragrances, especially if you are a server in a restaurant or boarding a plane where we will all be stuck smelling you for hours.  I have always loved Carolina Herrera scents and these bottles increased that love exponentially. They are the Good Girl collection and I want to add the Eau de Parfume Supreme in the lavender bottle or the beautiful Dazzling Garden Limited-Edition shoe. They look good and smell great with my body chemistry.
  

• Mama Needs A New Pair Of Boots

  I recently had a massive purge of my closet, including my shoe collection. It was ridiculous and fabulous at the same time. Want to see a video of the purge? Click here and be amazed. Ha. So, during the purge, I kept these cute fashion boots but no longer have a good pair of basic, or even sassy black boots. Boot season is coming up, so this is something that my wardrobe could really use.
  

• Food And Fun Play Date With My Three Nephews

  I can’t tell you how much I love my nephews and adore spending time with them while they still think I’m cool. I would whisk them away for an afternoon. Take them to a movie, the beach or an adventure park and let them eat whatever they want. Return them to my brother and sister-in-law all hopped up on sugar and say, “see ya later.” Ha. Well maybe not that last part, just in case they are reading this.
  

• Get Some Tile

  My kitchen had a leak and it destroyed my cabinets. It was a month after Hurricane Ian and I got in line with the tens of thousands of other people needing to remodel. The cabinets, counter tops and appliances are in and I love them. However, I still have this lovely concrete on the floor. I found some tile but by the time I found the help to instal it, it was out of stock. It’s been going that way ever since. I’m ready to get this floor done!
  

• Have A Party

  I really like to entertain. A few years ago COVID put a big halt to that and it seems I’ve never got back to full steam. Don’t get me wrong, I still have fun gatherings but not quite the same as I dd before. I would love to have the friends who have supported me so much over the last few years over for a big bash or a fancy dinner. Hire a chef to cook for us. Open some good bottles of wine I’ve been saving for that elusive special occasion. This kind of stuff makes me happy.
  

• Make A Donation And Give Back

  I am involved and have been involved in numerous charities and charitable events in Southwest Florida. There are some great organizations that help people in need from children to pets to the disabled. I love them all. However, I’ve been drawn lately to organizations that help with food insecurities and help feed people in disaster zones. Maybe it’s because I write about food and wine and have been fortunate enough to eat like a queen at times, knowing that others have nothing. Or perhaps it was living in a disaster zone after Hurricane Ian, seeing how my neighbors suffered, how organizations descended on our area with food and water, things I used to take for granted. I would make a donation to organizations such as Harry Chapin Food Bank, Blessings in a Backpack and World Central Kitchen.  WCK helped lots of Southwest Floridians in the days immediately following Ian.
